KEEPING IN SHAPE OVER THE HOLIDAYS

The holidays are almost upon us and still it feels like our winter bodies are a very recent memory.  For many, the holiday season is a time to let go and just relax and not get in shape.  But, once you have put down your wine spritzer or beer, you still need to pull on your swimming costumes.  Horrors!

Don’t let all your hard work at meeting your best self go to waste over the festive period.  Whether you’re staying home or travelling this holiday, there’s always a way to keep in shape.

We’ve put together some cool tips and a simple 10-minute program which will help you through the silly season.  But, first, remember these 3 golden nuggets –

MOVE!

Keep your holiday exercise program simple and above all else, move! Whether that means taking a daily brisk walk, cycling up to the shops, dancing with your family and friends, swimming in the ocean or pool or simply making sure you don’t ‘couch potato’ too much.

BE THE EARLY BIRD

Get your exercise regime in the early morning. Because, as it happens, when the day gets going, and the festive drinks come out, the last thing you will want to do is think about getting in shape or running around the block.  Exercising early also gets the metabolism kick-started and will burn those calories throughout the day, long after the workout.

EAT LIGHT

While no one expects you to starve yourself over the holidays, try to eat light. In fact, eat small, light meals often during the day. And, cut off eating around 8 pm each night.Drink lots of water – most times you aren’t hungry – you’re just thirsty.

Okay, onwards to a holiday program that works!

THRIVE FITNESS’ HOLIDAY KEEPING IN SHAPE PROGRAM

If you can’t get to one of our classes over the festive season (our festive opening and closing dates below), all you need is 10 minutes a day to keep your body and mind alert and the blood pumping. We do recommend at least 30 minutes a day to aiding your keeping in shape, but if all you have is 10, then try these moves.

And, the awesome thing about this, is these easy moves are equipment-free, so you can do them anywhere, anytime. And, of course, you can repeat it over and over as well.
